This is our finest Dragonwell. Each leaf was hand-gathered mid-March 2017 from a tea garden located at over 1200 meters above sea level, about an hour’s drive from Pan’an, in central Zhejiang. This tea was picked on the first harvest day of the season.

The family that crafted this tea has been working the land for three generations, using only organic farming methods. Roasting is done by hand in small batches - each batch takes nearly forty-five minutes to roast. Once roasted, the tea is then meticulously sorted so that only small leaf buds remain. Young leaf buds brew a smoother, rounder tea with more aromatics than mature leaves. Our Finest Dragonwell is viscous, creamy to the point of oiliness, sweet, refined and delicious.

Availability is limited. We procured only 18 pounds for the year, equaling no more than forty portions of 2 ounces each.

  • Brewing Guide

We've experimented with 2 styles of brewing for this tea. The first, using the recommended parameters below, yields a tea that is light, sweet and smooth. Begin with a 45 second steep, adding 10 seconds for each subsequent re-infusion.

The second method brews an exceptionally delicious and rich tea. However, given the rarity and expense of this tea, it's not the most cost-effective way to enjoy it. Bring water to a full boil. Fill the gaiwan halfway with tea. Add water and immediately decant. This method extracts the tea's flavor oils for a brew that is intense, but does so at the expense of subsequent brews, since boiling water shocks the leaves in such a way that subsequent infusions will be astringent.
