Though it is now popular around the
world, the story of tea began in China.

History: Origins of Tea

Tea is one of the oldest beverages in the world. 3,000 years of legend and history culminate in the rich and complex tea culture we know today. Both the tea plant and the tradition of crafting and drinking tea originated in China. They held a firm monopoly on the tea market until the Opium Wars of the 1800's.
