  • How to Brew

Please watch our YouTube video for a detailed explanation on how to brew tea with the Essential Gaiwan Set.

    Step 1 - Heat Water:
Heat your water to the ideal temperature for the tea you are brewing.

Step 2 - Portion Tea Leaves:
Weigh out one serving of tea leaves and add to the gaiwan (we recommend ~5g of tea leaf for the gaiwan in this set). Review our Brewing Guide for more information on brew ratios.

    Step 3 - Pre-warm Teaware:
Pre-warm vessels by pouring hot water into the gaiwan, server, and cups. Discard water.

    Step 4 - Infuse:
Add loose tea leaves directly into the gaiwan, then add hot water to brew. Brew for the appropriate infusion time.

    Step 5 - Decant:
Place the stainless steel leaf strainer on top of the glass server. After the brewing time has elapsed, create a gap between the lid and body of the gaiwan, using the lid to strain the leaves as you decant into the glass server. The leaf strainer will catch any errant bits of tea. (*Use of leaf strainer is optional).

    Step 6 - Serve & Enjoy:
Pour from the glass server into the tasting cups & enjoy.

    How to Wash

Hand wash only using mild dish soap. Thoroughly dry the stainless steel leaf strainer after washing to prevent rust.
