Handcrafted from light clay and glazed with a sapphire blue celadon, these tea bowls were commissioned in 2015 from Taiwanese ceramcist Xu De Jia. The smaller size and fluted texture of this bowl makes it easy to hold.
The shape of the bowl is similar to a traditional tianmu bowl, updated with a celadon glaze. The wide opening tapers dramatically into an elegantly simple foot. The added fluting detail on the exterior of the bowl adds an elegant and minimal surface texture.
The sapphire blue celadon is slightly under-fired to create a smooth, satiny feel. This traditional style of glaze replicates the work from the renowned Song dynasty Ru kiln. A complex web of crazing covers the teapot, barely visible when new, these lines will deepen in color with use.
