A unique teapot from the studio of Xu De Jia, with a Japanese-style side handle. The dark stone ware is thickly coated with celadon glaze to create a rich, soft blue hue.
A beautiful side effect of a lighter glaze over darker clay is the thin band of caramel brown on the edge of the lid, the circumference of the opening and the tip of the spout. The base is unglazed and is signed and dated by the artist. As is the case for most Xu De Jia pieces, a fine network of crazing covers each teapot. With use, the glazed surfaces will develop a rich patina and the web of crazing will fill in with color.
The interior of the teapot is glazed, ideal for brewing any type of tea even if they are different in characteristics. This teapot is shaped entirely by hand.
